# Practice Exams

> Complete practice exams with advanced configuration, performance analysis and detailed grading

## Practice Exams

Create full practice exams to assess student knowledge. Unlike quizzes (linked to individual lessons), practice exams are independent assessments with advanced settings for timing, attempts and scheduling.

## For teachers

### Creating a practice exam

    In the admin panel, click **Practice Exams** then **Create practice exam**.

  <Step title="Basic information">
    Fill in:

    * **Title** — Exam name
    * **Description** (optional) — Instructions and context
    * **Category** (optional) — E.g., "Biology", "Chapter 5"
    * **Difficulty level** — Easy, Medium or Hard
    * **Type** — Multiple choice, Open response or Mixed

  <Step title="Configure time and attempts">
    * **Time limit** — In minutes (or no limit)
    * **Maximum attempts** — How many times the student can retake (or unlimited)
    * **Retry interval** — Minimum wait time between attempts
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure scoring and access">
    * **Passing score** — Score required to pass (optional)
    * **Immediate results** — Whether students see answers after each question or only at the end
    * **Access** — Open to everyone or restricted to a specific course
  </Step>

  <Step title="Scheduling (optional)">
    * **Start date** — When the exam becomes available
    * **Expiration date** — When it stops accepting new attempts
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add questions">
    Create the exam questions (see section below).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Publish">
    Exams are created as drafts. Publish when ready for students to access.
  </Step>

### Question types

**Multiple choice:**

* Define the question with a rich text editor
* Add response options (2 to 8 options)
* Mark the correct answer
* Add optional feedback per option (shown when immediate results are active)
* Set the question's point value

**Open response:**

* Define the question with a rich text editor
* The student types their answer freely
* Requires manual grading by the teacher

  Use **AI** to automatically generate questions from lesson content. The teacher reviews and edits before adding to the exam.

### Metrics and grading

On the exam metrics page, the teacher can view:

* **General statistics** — Total attempts, average score, pass rate
* **Per-student performance** — Name, attempts made, best score, time spent, status
* **Per-question analysis** — Correct answer percentage per question, identifying the hardest ones
* **Performance by subject** — If questions are categorized, shows results by topic

**Open response grading:**

For exams with open response questions, the teacher accesses the grading screen to:

* View the student's answer
* Assign a score (0 to the question's maximum value)
* Add comments and feedback

## For students

### Finding practice exams

On the **Practice Exams** page, available exams are organized in tabs:

* **To Do** — Available exams you haven't taken or can retake
* **Completed** — Exams already finished or with exhausted attempts
* **Upcoming** — Scheduled exams not yet available

### Taking a practice exam

    Read the instructions, check the time limit and available attempts.

  <Step title="Start the exam">
    Click **Start Exam**. The timer begins counting (if there's a time limit).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Answer the questions">
    Navigate through questions using previous/next buttons or navigation indicators.

    * For **multiple choice**: select an option
    * For **open response**: type your answer
    * Your answers are saved automatically
  </Step>

  <Step title="Finish">
    When done, click **Finish**. A confirmation will be requested before submission.
  </Step>

<Warning>
  If the time limit runs out, the exam is automatically finished with the answers already saved.
</Warning>

### Results

After finishing, the results page shows:

* **Score obtained** and pass/fail status
* **Time spent** on the exam
* **Correct and incorrect answers** per question with answer key
* **Analysis by subject** — Your strengths and areas needing more study
* **Evolution** — If you took multiple attempts, a graph showing your progress

If available, the **Retake** button allows a new attempt (respecting attempt limits and intervals).

### AI explanation

When **AI** is active, an **"Explain"** button appears on questions you got wrong. The AI analyzes the question, your answer and the correct answer to provide a personalized educational explanation.

## Linking with objectives and skills

Practice exams can be linked to course **objectives** and **skills**. Individual questions can be associated with specific skills, enabling:

* Measuring mastery of each skill based on responses
* Identifying student strengths and weaknesses by competency
* Generating personalized study recommendations
